Kathy Seifert, PhD

Dr. Kathryn Seifert, PhD, is a nationally recognized psychologist, author, and expert in violence prevention, forensic psychology, and mental health assessment. With more than 30 years of experience as a psychotherapist, she brings unmatched expertise in understanding, assessing, and treating individuals at risk for violence and behavioral disorders.

Dr. Seifert is the founder and CEO of Eastern Shore Psychological Services (ESPS), a multidisciplinary mental health clinic serving high-risk youth and families throughout Maryland. She is best known for her pioneering research in identifying and intervening with individuals at risk for violence. She developed the CARE-2 Assessment, a widely used evidence-based tool for evaluating youth prone to chronic violent behavior, and the Risk Management Evaluation (RME) for Women, designed to assess risk factors related to violence and sexual abuse.

 

Her thought leadership has earned national attention. Dr. Seifert has appeared on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, Fox News, Discovery ID, and CBC Canada, providing expert commentary on youth violence and mental health. Her Psychology Today blog, Stop the Cycle, has reached over 130,000 readers, and her insights have been featured in The Washington Post, The Daily Beast, Yahoo News, and other major outlets.

An accomplished author, Dr. Seifert wrote two influential books—How Children Become Violent (winner of the IPPY Bronze Medal for Psychology/Mental Health) and Youth Violence: Theory, Prevention, and Intervention—both widely adopted in academic and professional training programs. She continues to lecture internationally and has received numerous awards for innovation, leadership, and community impact in forensic psychology.
